Mission Statement & Vision
The Mission of The Northeastern Catholic District School Board:
Inspired by the mystery of Christ, we will guide our students on a journey of discovery that celebrates life.
The Northeastern Catholic District School Board recognizes that the development of the person involves spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. This holistic approach forms the minds and hearts of everyone. Through this formation, all are enabled to take personal responsibility in living a meaningful, faith-filled life which embodies the life of Christ, and in continuing the Church's mission of service in society.
The human person, though made of body and soul, is a unity... The human body shares in the dignity of the image of God: it is a human body precisely because it is animated by a spiritual soul, and it is the whole human person that is intended to become, in the body of Christ, a temple of the Spirit... (#364. Catechism of the Catholic Church)
We recognize that while our purpose is to provide a well-rounded education for our students in the spirit of the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church, we do not operate alone. We will promote the participation of families and church in our children's education.
"As it is the parents who have given life to their children, on them lies the gravest obligation of educating their family ... The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute ... The task of imparting education also requires the help of society as a whole ... The Church must be recognized as a human society capable of imparting education It is the special function of the Catholic school to develop in the school community an atmosphere animated by a spirit of liberty and charity based on the Gospel." (Vatican 2, "Declaration on Christian Education," sections 3 and 8)
We strive to recognize and celebrate God's many gifts to each of us. With the guidance of our teacher and saviour, Jesus Christ, we will carry out our work in the classroom and in all interactions, in a spirit of love and discipleship.
God created everything for humanity, but human beings in turn were created to serve and love God and to offer all creation back to him. (#358, Catechism of the Catholic Church)
We seek to create a Catholic faith community which recognizes the interdependence, dignity, equality, and respect of all. The heart of Christ will be reflected in all of our relationships.
Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all (people) have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude, all therefore enjoy an equal dignity. (# 1934, Catechism of the Catholic Church)
We recognize that each child is a precious gift from God. Though we share responsibility in their education and their well being is our primary concern, we recognize that we too have much to learn from witnessing our children's faith journeys.
