Students and Parents

There is an overwhelming body of research that shows that parental involvement in education has a positive and lasting impact on a child. Whether you've got a little bit of time or a lot, there can be a place for you!

  • Getting Involved: Helping Your Child at Home
    • Parents and guardians can play an important role at home through understanding expectations, encouraging good homework habits and maintaining good communication with teachers throughout the school year. Parents of older students can assist with secondary course selections as well
  • Combined Grades
    • The research says students in combined grade classroom achieve as well academically as those in single grade classrooms. Whole-class strategies such as explicit instruction, co-operative learning and subject integration support improved learning in combined grades classrooms.
  • Be Web Aware
    • Be Web Aware is a national, bilingual public education program on Internet safety. The initiative was developed and supported by Media Awareness Network (MNet), Bell and Microsoft Canada.
  • Special Education
    • Information and resources for families with children in Northeastern Catholic DSB’s Schools' Special Education programs.
  • Catholic School Councils
    • The purpose of school councils is to improve pupil achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. You can become involved! Contact your school for more information in Parent Councils.
  • Volunteering
    • NCDSB volunteers are extra special people who help make our schools the very best they can be. You can lend a helping hand just once for a special event or field trip, or dedicate time on a more regular basis. Please contact your child's school to see what volunteer opportunities there may be that fit your own schedule, interests and unique talents
